Highlights • Visit the famous historical and natural attractions in the city of Nikko • Discover one of Japan’s greatest World Heritage Sites, Nikko Toshogu Shrine • Enjoy a break by Lake Chuzenji at the foot of a volcano • Visit one of Japan's famous waterfalls and enjoy the beautiful red maples • Take the cable car up to the observation deck for a panoramic view Explore Tochigi Nikko, a town rich in history and culture, with a guided tour of its top attractions. Start from Shinjuku or Tokyo station and meet your driver/guide. Your first stop is Toshogu Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the memorial of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Admire sculptures like the "Three Apes," "Sleeping Cat," and "Singing Dragon" (ticket not included). Next, visit Shōyō-en Garden, famous for its autumn foliage (Oct. 15–Dec. 10) and the 1,250-year-old Rinno-ji Temple. Alternatively, from Dec. 11, you'll visit the Akechidaira Ropeway Observation Deck, offering stunning views of Chuzenji Lake, Huayan Falls, and distant mountains. Drive along the scenic Irohazaka Road, known for its 48 turns and beautiful autumn colors. Then, visit Lake Chuzenji, Japan’s highest-altitude natural lake, offering stunning views year-round. Finally, marvel at Kegon Falls, one of Japan’s three major waterfalls, plunging 97 meters from Lake Chuzenji. End your day with a return to the original meeting point.
